David began his career in the Hospitality Sector, attending college and graduating in Business Management, he worked in a number of Irish hotels in various senior management roles, which all seemed to revolve around “trouble shooting”, which prompted him to open David Ellis Consulting in 1988. He offered advice and mentoring to many failing and troubled restaurants and hotels. But during that time, he began to open his own businesses.
In his career, he has owned and operated over 20 restaurants, hotels, pubs, retail outlets, online businesses, holistic schools and several other business modalities.
David now owns and operates one of the most successful traditional Irish restaurants in Dublin – The Shack Restaurant in Temple Bar and he also operates a counselling practice, The Positive Mind to help others with mind troubling issues.
His academic qualifications include: Business Management, Marketing, Nero Linguistic Programming, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Counselling, Hypnotherapy, Colour Psychology and a host of business and human behaviour modalities.
In business as well as in life, he has failed as many times as he has succeeded. In failure he learned more, than any course could teach him, and in that learning, he learned to try again, but differently. Failure has been his greatest learning.
In 2019 David set up The Consultant, to help new Restaurant owners to understand the business they are investing in and to guide and help them through the difficult times of Birth and Growth and indeed Death.
